bob, bradford, yorkshire
I came across a 28/2.8 that would not fit on my R8 body but would fit any number of other R bodies. I took them down to Leica Milton Keynes and the lens would not fit any of their bodies either! After a week I received the two back, both the body and the lens had been fitted with with new mounts. Since then all lenses have fitted perfectly. And the 28 fits all other R bodies.Bob
joel_matherson
Im surprised at some of the responses to this post and by whom. It is perfectly concievable that the camera has a faulty mount. Tolerences vary as another thread above has proven. Quality control is always at its worst when a new model is released till all production bugs are ironed out. No one would have believed the poor electronics in early R8's but it happened. I think anyone who gets a bad Leica new out of the box has a right to question the quality control for the outlay of money on Leica products after all isnt that why we pay that little bit extra? Another thread by Charles has shown that different lenses have different mount tolerences, if the mount on the camera is at the opposite end of tolerences to the lenses that wont fit the error in the mount may concievable reveal itself with those lenses. Good news is new items have warranties, im sure it can be fixed, but as Bryan asked it would be good to know if anyone else has experienced the same problems as well informed members can be aware of the possibilty that such a problem exists. This post could be helpful to people on a possible bug of a new model, please treat it as such. Most likely it will be a one off slip up, lets be constructive and see if it is. eliot
"Quality control is always at its worst when a new model is released till all production bugs are ironed out." <p> Joel, think about what you are saying? Do you know how long the M bayonet mount (which is what we are talking about) has been around? The M3 was introduced in 1954. The mount which couples to six different focal lengths was introduced with the M4P in 1980. There is nothing whatever new about the bayonet mount in the M7. Do you think this is something Leica needs another year or two to iron out?
