frederick_muller
This might seem like one from left field, but I would love to hear about people's experience with the Canon 19mm f3.5 lens, that I understand was available in L39 screw mount. How does it stand up to lenses like the 21mm Super-Angulon, which I think was of a comparable period and of comparable speed?
pico_digoliardi
I used on a lot. It cannot compare to the S/A for contrast and sharpness, but it sure was compact. (I also used the flat Nikkor 21mm F4 on the Nikon S. Got pics from it somewhere.)
frederick_muller
Hmmm ... sounds like the S/A is very good. Is there a real size difference between the S/A and the Canon 19mm?
kbg32
I remember that lens being much larger then the Super Angulon. They appear occaissionally on ebay.
pico_digoliardi
Lower profile than the S/A. Not to be confused with the 19mm F3.5 for the 35mm which was quite different, larger.
al_kaplan1
I had one for years until it was stolen. Mine was the non-retrofocus for the Canon reflex with the mirror locked up, which I used with the Canon Lens Mount Converter B for 39mm thread mount. It was the same optics as the rangefinder version and I'd say it was in the same class as the 21/3.4 Super Angulon, which I currently own. It had good sharpness and contrast. If I ran across another in good condition at a good price I'd be tempted to get it.
frederick_muller
So you had the FL model, Al. Even that Converter B would be really nice to have these days!
al_kaplan1
Yup, I guess it was the FL model. I remember buying the lens brand new complete with case and finder, and the dealer through in the lens mount converter B for free. The retrofocus 19 had just been introduced and there wasn't much market for the older design. It cost me $100.00 plus sales tax.
peter_evans4
Gandy says the version for SLR was better. I don't think that that the necessary adapter is particularly rare, though if you get this lens for SLR and the adapter you'll still want a finder for it.

In your place I'd just get the 21mm CV.

Thinking of wide-angle CV, the appeal of the new Zeiss <s>Bessa L2</s> Ikon SW is lost on me. If I want an M mount and don't want a viewfinder, then for 60% of the asking price I can get an as-new Bessa T and Heliar set.
stephen_w.
That huge ZM 15 probably blocks more than half of the VF.
