rjclarke
Hi- What is the difference in image quality between using a Mamiya 180mm f4.5 coated lens vs uncoated thanks
terry_evans3
Richard,What camera do you have and how would you use the lens? Coatings have a lot to do with the reflection of direct light. More care needs to be taken with a non c lens. Until a month ago, I had an RB Pro SD and KL lenses. I also had a non c, c, and kl 180mm. I thought the optics were very good even on the non c. Most of my use was indoors with controled light.Terry
kelly_flanigan1
The chrome Mamiya 18 cm f4.5 TLR lens I have from the late 1950's is coated. I have never seen an uncoated Mamyia lens; unles you mean the ones that were built coated; then uncoated by users via scrubbing with t-shirts. Maybe there is some pre WW2 Mamyia folders? All the C series TLR lenses are coated; all the later RB stuff too.
dean_matsueda
Yes, I've been under the impression that pretty much all lens made from the late-40s - early '50s onwards are coated. This is supposed to have conincided with the rising popularity of color film.

jmf
All the RB series lenses were coated. In the case of the Non-C type, not all the elements were multicoated. The main diff is that the Non-C type tended to be lower contrast in brighter scenes.
