derek e.
Hi Everyone, I am a current Nikon user planning on making the switch to Canon (looking at buying a used 1V). I have a couple Nikon lenses that I would like to use on my future EOS body (AF 20-35 f/2.8, AIS 55 f/2.8 Micro). I heard that there are adapters for Nikon lenses. Are all adapters the same (having browsed on e-bay there seem to be a few different kinds). I assume that there isn't an official Canon version? Do the adapters work well? Thanks for your help. tommyinca
The adapters should work. I have good sucess with them (two types both made in China) on a AF20/2.8 and an AI 55/3.5 macro.
mark_chappell
The adapters work (and preserve infinity focus), but there's no AF (not an issue with your two lenses) and no automatic diaphragm -- you have to stop the lens down manually to shooting aperture. bobatkins
Should be fine. Lots of people use them. See http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/manual_focus_EOS.html
JDMvW
One source for the adapter is http://www.fotodiox.com. They sell a professional grade for a rather high price, but a simple metal adapter in "consumer grade" is less than $30. I made the switch from Nikon to Canon digital less than a year ago, and then was delighted to find these adapters. My old 35mm PC Nikkor perspective control lens (which was only stop-down anyway) works beautifully. I also use my old non-AI 55mmm f1.2 Nikkor with no real problem. Of course the smaller APS-sized sensor means there is a 'magnification' factor, and the pentaprism screen lacks any kind of focus aid, making it necessary to be very careful in focusing. By the bye, M42 Pentacon/Pentax screw in lenses also work on the Canon with infinity focus, and manual focus etc with a similar adapter.
JDMvW
Historical retrospect: As I have posted elsewhere, my effort to find a Nikon adapter that would enable the focus confirmation on my 20D resulted in an adapter from Hong Kong that completely fried every circuit in my camera. I have trolled the various forums (fora?) and no one else seems to have had the same bad luck, but I'll never mount any home-made circuitry on my EOS cameras again. Cost me over $300, and two repair episodes to repair the camera! Otherwise, no problems, and I have now even got an Exakta adapter, so my old Exakta mount Biotar and Angenieux work on my 20D.
