flickr url
Hello!
There are numerous posts within Photo.net advising locations where to take pictures in Death Valley...Question regarding Zabriske point -- during this month (November first week) do morning shots work better than evening shots? I have a Nikon D70 some 2 stop filters, a warming filter and am considering using a Nikkor 14-28mm lens.
Also, I wondered if anyone knows which direction the sun rises from -- South East or North East during this time of the year - in Z Point?
I am planning on being on Z-Point or Badwater for sunrise (depending on the feedback that I get from this thread)...and the other place for sunset.
Thanks for any responses in advance,
-Naveen
enlightened-images
After the autumnal equinox, the sunrise is always in the southeast; that's a hemspheric thing - not a local or regional situation. Most people shoot postcard shots of Zabriskie Point and Badwater at sunrise.

You can see some of mine at: Death Valley Photos

Gary Crabbe
Enlightened Images
jeff_conrad
Most photographers in Death Valley want to be facing opposite the Sun at rise or set, so in that respect, both Badwater and Zabriskie Point are much better for sunrise than for sunset. One possibility for sunset in the same general area is Golden Canyon: hike in just over a mile, and stay on the trail toward Zabriskie Point. Shortly after a sharp right turn heading toward Manly Beacon, ascend a small rise to the left (east) of the trail. From there, you can get shots of both the Red Cathedral (to the northeast) and Manly Beacon (to the southeast). Get there about 1/2 hour before sunset to catch the direct sunlight before the Sun dips below the mountains to the west.
Sunrise azimuth (relative to true north) varies between about 108 and 110 degrees; sunset azimuth varies between about 252 and 250 degrees.
