Photos saved with "Save As" can't be uploaded to PN galleries?

Recommended Posts

When I try to upload to a gallery an image saved as a jpeg in PS-CS2

using "Save As," I get an error message telling me to retry using

"Save For Web." From others' posts, I know I'm not the only person who

has this problem. In a recent thread

(http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00EwbJ&tag=), we

confirmed that not everyone gets this error message, and that some

users can upload photos saved using "Save As." (Eric F., the person

who tested and confirmed this, was using PS-CS, though, not CS2.)

Can anyone explain what setting in CS2 prevents some of us from

uploading images saved with "Save As" to PN galleries? I do not have

this problem posting an image to a forum thread.

Here is the error message I get:

"We had a problem processing your entry: File contains xml-encoded

preview data. For more information on this problem, and suggestions on

how to correct it, please read our page, Problems with Photoshop 7

JPEG images. Please back up using your browser, correct it, and

resubmit your entry."

The page referred to contains a long message explaining that such

images "break" browsers.

I have this problem whether or not I tick the box for ICC profile when

saving.

Thanks to anyone who can shed light.

<I>With the color image, I added a little saturation before doing Save for Web to normalize the Save for Web color loss:</I>

</P><P>

The colour loss might be down to the profile. If you're editing the image in Adobe 1998, try converting to SRGB before saving for web - this should give you the same colours on the web copy as the normal version. Don't save the changes to the original, though - leave it as Adobe 1998. The conversion to SRGB is only for the benefit of the web version.

It's a long term problem with photo.net -- it's a useless error message. However it does prevent you from uploading your image. There are ways around it but not always worth the effort. Some day, in the near future I hope, photo.net's Nazi-like, JPG-checking routines can either be fixed or eliminated. Photo.net software is living somewhere in the late '90s since it's been proven over and over and over that these images never break modern browsers.
