regit_young1
The love affair continues and it grew a tad deeper now with its new focusing "tab" made with a hose clamp :)<br><br><i>M7+Plus-X</i><br><br><img src=http://www.pbase.com/image/55974003/original.jpg><br><br><img src=http://www.pbase.com/image/55971494/original.jpg><br><br><img src=http://www.pbase.com/image/55971502/original.jpg><br><br><img src=http://www.pbase.com/image/55971501/original.jpg><br><br><img src=http://www.pbase.com/image/55971495/original.jpg>

vivek iyer
Regit: It is really very harsh there, huh? Amazing! Clouds, smog and icy rain is all we get! Watch out for rust on that hose clamp! They are very prone to that, especially when connected to a different metal.
akira
VIvek, Don't worry. Regit has put something between the helicoid and hose clamp! Regit, The second photo looks as if it was taken in the '30th! Very appropreate for this particular couple!
vivek iyer
Yes, I saw the spacer, Akira. If it is also metallic (electrically conducting), same fate awaits the clamp/lens housing. I have some rusted rails on the balcony, I tied a pencil sharpener (Magnesium metal) as a sacrificial piece (a bit of electrochemistry in use) to stop further deterioration of the iron bars. So, more than the clamp, it is the the lens barrel that needs attention. Best to replace the metal clamp with a bit of plastic.
regit_young1
Hi Vivek, it may be a "grass is greener on the other side" syndrome, but I actually prefer a change. The sun is Australia is not really idea for normal outdoor shooting ... UV photography is another matter though :) As for the lens, the lens barrel is gaffer taped. regit_young1
Hi Akira, I actually did a trade with the couple. In order to get their picture, I had to let them take mine ... two people for one, I think I got a bargain :)
al_kaplan1
I've never loved my 6 element 50mm Summicron because it lacks a tab. I like that idea of the hose clamp. I guess next time I'm at Home Depot I'll pick one up and give it a try. A nice shiny stainless steel clamp should look great on a black lens...LOL
vivek iyer
Hi Regit, You just read my mind! :-) Yes, gaffer tape is a good thing.
rj
Nice ingenuity. If you are worried about rust or the incompatability of metals, like aluminum on steel ect., than you could try a plastic tie wrap, a large one. It also works well. akira
Hi, Vivek, Thanks for the explanation! I'll keep it in mind:-) Hi, Regit, that's a very nice way to take snapshots of people:-) Hi, RJ, you nailed it! I've been lookong for the English word for the plastic "Tie Wrap"! Yes, it should be a great alternative.
