natureshots
For many reasons, people delete their photos shortly after submitting for critiques. The system has been out of sync ever since the site crashed and does not update the deleted photos as fast as before. In Critique By Category, the broken links to the images remained when clicking "(View)" but not "(List)".
jennifer_spiller
The provided link does not link to a photo, but rather to the critique request forum.
igla
If you go to "Critique By Category" you will notice that almost every other category has at least one missing photograph.
jennifer_spiller
I browsed the critique forum and wasn't able to find an example. Thai is probably right, the photos are probably being deleted by the photographer or site admin.
igla
Here is one: Leon Desrocher http://www.photo.net/bboard/forum?rating_type=photocritique&topic_id=1481&category=Astrophotography
jennifer_spiller
Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for the link. The photo's ID is 3793802, which is shown in the system as deleted. It seems that this photo was posted for critique and then deleted, and the front page has not yet reflected this change.

mottershead
When someone deletes a photo that has been submitted for critique, the critique request is not automatically deleted. There are some places where you can see these orphaned critique requests. For example, the person who made the request can see all his recent critique requests in his Workspace, including the ones he has orphaned by deleting the photo. Up until a few weeks ago, critique requests were automatically deleted when the photo was deleted, so critique requests never got orphaned. We changed this for two reasons: first, deleting them automatically was creating a technical problem involving locks in the database. Second, once the critique request was removed it wasn't possible for us to properly enforce the quotas on critique requests, which were being enforced by simply counting the number of them made in the last 24 hours and in the last 7 days. It was intended that 1 per day for non-subscribers should be 1 per day, not as many as you want per day as long as you keep deleting the photos. So, the new approach is to leave these orphaned critique requests around for at least a week so that they count towards the quotas. They should not be visible most places, and I've suppressd them from various lists already, but it might take some time to identify all of the places where dangling critique requests are being listed on the site.
