meisterman
I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with a small problem. I have a Canon 20D and a set of Novatron VR 500 lights. What is the best way to trigger them. If I am not mistaken the lights are 12V and camera at 6V . Don't want to plug the sync cord into the 20d and have something bad happen. Thanks for any help / solution. Klaus
mydarkroom
You can go wireless or you can get a wien safe sync.
mike_lepp1
You can use something like this as a relatively inexpensive sollution: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=245292&is=REG&addedTroughType=search From there you can look at wireless. These costs a little more. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=search&Q=&b=320&shs=&ci=8007&ac=&Submit.x=16&Submit.y=9 You can probably find one that suits your needs. Some offer channels which can be good if other people are near by firing their units with similar devices. Others are RF and are good for longer distances. There are many other features available for a price. I use a relatively inexpensive model, the wein ssr-jr. It works great for studio use. I've never had an issue with the flashes not firing. At least that I didn't cause:-) Including putting the reciever behind the backdrop, around corners, etc.
rob_m.___portland__or.
I've had those Wein adapters fail on me twice now. I went ahead and bought some radio slaves. Rob
meisterman
Thanks for all the help everyone. I am going to order the wein wireles. It should fit my needs just fine.
sheldonnalos
I believe that the 20D tolerates up to 250v for the trigger voltage, so you should be fine. Don't let that stop you from getting a wireless system though. If you're going to go all out, the Pocket Wizards are the most highly spoken of. flirtynfun
I've been shooting with my Novatron 400's and a 20D for some time with no problem. I will add some kudo's to Novatron for the replacing the transformer in my powerpack though for free after I burnt it from firing too fast. The powerpack was even 3 months out of warranty.
