Flash Exposure Prob. On Rolleicord Vb

I have just taken a couple of shot using a National PE -164 electronic flash connected to a Cord Vb, apparently there is a rather harsh shadow behind the subject, sorta like a shadow image behind him. The question is what is the cause of the shadow? I have to admit that I am quite new at using non TTL flash esp using a manual TLR.

It sounds like you are use to using a 35mm camera with the flash on camera. What you are seeing is the off-set between the camera lens and the flash unit. To minimize this, you need to either hand hold the flash directly above the camera or obtain a bracket that will position the flash directly above the camera, so that the shadow falls directly behind the subject and is not easly seen in the picture.

There are other techniques that can reduce the harshness of flash pictures, such as bounce flash, using diffusers of various types on the flash and multiple flash units. There are may good books on this subject.
