jim_simon6
ok, so i just got a 20d yesterday (anniversary gift!) a couple hours b4 going to a wedding (as a guest) - got some good advice on the wedding forum and had alot of fun last night shooting with my new toy. now comes the hard part, loaded all the software today, downloaded the pictures onto the computer, played around a little with exposure, color, contrast, etc. on the raw files using the EOS viewer utility software. so far so good i think. i would like to back up the raw files to either cd or dvd b4 clearing off the (only) cf card, but i'm not having much luck. i've only got the canon software and adobe photoshop elements 2.0 to work with right now. i'm sure this is probably something pretty basic, but unfortunately for me, this is my 1st foray into digital post-processing. anyway, anything you can do to point me in the right direction is much appreciated. thanks, jim
john_stark
use your CD/DVD creation software to make a data CD/DVD..... you were right, pretty basic.
wolver
Just send the whole folder (xxxCanon) that the camera created and you downloaded into your computer to the the CD/DVD burner and burn a disk.
mjc photographic images
I have nero burning software on my computer so I just use that to back up my RAW files onto DVD or CD. whichever writer you have you can also use windows built in software for copying (I mean to backup:)) I have never used windows backup software but it should explain to you how to use it in the windows help files. Good luck
john_stark
I would not use backup software... nero or other. "Backup" compresses data, you do not want to compress photo, especially RAW! Use only the "data" selection to copy to CD or DVD.
jajurek
I found to be very cumbersome to join camera to computer, it is more convenient to use card reader (price in Poland below 20 dollars). Computer sees card reader as the additional hard disk (by USB). You can copy pictures from the card to your hard disk and use your burner software (for example nero). bobatkins
Backup compression does no harm. It's lossless. If it wasn't, every program and data file you backed up would be useless. It won't be very effective to losslessly compress a JPEG or RAW file, but it will do no harm.
conrad_fischer1
You can also download the newly updated Digital Photo Professional free from Canon. The new version downloads both the jpg and the cr2 file to your hard drive. http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct This link should get you close, just search for the 20D and click on drivers/software.
