alice_guy
Either my eyes are getting more cirtical, my scanner is getting old and fuzzy, or my film is more curved nowadays then it used to be. Does anybody have any advice or nifty tricks for retaining film flatness when scanning 120 + 35mm using a flatbed [Epson 4870]scanner. The plastic holders that come with the scanner leave a lot to be desired. I used to see links around to a glass holder for flatbed scanners. Anyone used one of these and happier with the results? danny_wong2
This is what I use. Doug is a member of photo.net and very helpful http://home.earthlink.net/~dougfisher/holder/mainintro.html
Ed_Ingold
Hold it down with a piece of anti-reflective glass from a frame shop. Use black matte board for a spacer and frame for the film. Don't forget the cutout for scanner calibration. Not handy - contact Doug Fisher for some well-thought-out holders.
alice_guy
Thanks guys. It was Doug's site I was thinking of. I can't be fiddling with homemade contraptions and set ups for every scan I have to do. Way too fiddly and time consuming. Doug's holder looks like it'll do the trick nicely. Thanks again for the replies.

jtk
Doug's carrier AND his anti-newton glass have solved the problem for me with 6X9 rollfilm (120) on my Epson 3200. 120 and AN glass isn't an excessive dust problem on this non-Ice scanner, but 35 would be another matter.. without Ice/infared. The AN glass seems to separate tones more than no-glass...I don't understand this but I like it.
