ibargureni
Hi all, well, this isn't a misbehavour of my camera, I supose, but I realized something curious these days. When the camera is turned off, I thought the most normal situation would be the lens coupling electronic pins would't have any current on them, but when I start taking the lens apart from the body (being it turned off), when the alineation mark reaches the "n" in Nikon, the green light of the memory card access blinks once, and turning the lens a bit more, without taking it completely apart, the green light starts blinking continuously. I think this must be from the electronic contacts because it only happens with my AF lenses, and not with the MF ones. Well, I expect all the cameras do that, since mine is working perfectly, but I haven't read it anywhere yet, so I thought it would be interesting sharing the detail. Thanks in advance for all the opinions, Ioritz.
briany
Yep, I've noticed that the green light memory access light blinks when taking off a lens. I've always thought it a bit odd, but never had any problems...
david_h._hartman
When the D70s loose one of its members its probably checking to see what its got left.

Sorry,

Dave Hartman.
david_h._hartman
Ive never noticed this with my D2H but the D2H does check its memory from time to time as indicated by the memory card access lamp. Im sure you are correct in not worrying. Ill check my D2H tonight.

Dave
walterh
I think this would qualify as "behaviour". If the D70 snaps at you when you take the lens off it would even qualify as "mis-behaviour" ^^I noticed some drain of the battery in the camera with time - this would explain it. Is there any electronic device left, that is really switched off by an on-off switch?
david_h._hartman
Is there any electronic device left, that is really switched off by an on-off switch? --Walter Schroeder

The on/off switch simply disables the shutter release and any other buttons that can wake up the CPU. The CPU is probably the primary drain on the batteries. The least is the LCD(s) and back lights for them. The camera is really not off but rather dozing when switched off. The CF card is off at least to the extent that you can not read and write to it when the camera is switched off. There are warnings about switching off the camera when the memory card access lamp is lit.

I said Id check my camera but its locked up and the keys to the cabinet here are 20 miles east. I'll try to do it tomorrow night.

Regards,

Dave Hartman.
ShunCheung
Just tested that on my D100 and D2X, with the cameras turned off and a CF card in the slot, the green light turns on when I mount and unmount a lens. So I guess this is all normal. However, when there is no CF card in the slot, the green light remains off the entire time.
martin_altmann
Remember that the battery itself loses charge with time. So I suppose that the drain in a switched off camera mostly comes from this. There is a small demand of power to drive the LCD showing the no of exposures left, and some other basic keep alive functions, but the intrinsic battery loss of charge is probably dominant. david_h._hartman
Well I got my keys and no surprise: my D2H behaves (or misbehaves) just the same as Shun's D100 and D2X. I tried changing lenses with and without a CF card installed and sure enough. I never noticed this particularly but the camera is kind of like a cat that's never quite fully asleep.
