tholte
John and Stephen -- what's your point?
john_f._lemke
Sorry, I never comment on my art. I've always been one to leave that to others. Stephen, on the other hand, is obviously a smartass.

stephen hazelton
The Christmas wishes above were sincere, and I hope you do/did have good Christmas/ New Year. As to the picture, it just struck me as an odd place for Christmas decorations. (I've seen "Happy Birthday" balloons at gravesites as well, which strikes me as equally bizarre). This was at a fairly small cemetery near my house. However, as I drove by it twice today while doing some running around, both times I saw people out visiting gravesites, and with that in mind, the decorations made more sense. There were two or three Christmas decorations with the glass ornaments, and then quite a number of poinsettas as well. This is an old cemetery (with newer plots as well), very well-kept, and I've been there a number of times taking pictures.
john_f._lemke
Basically the same idea as Stephen's. It struck me as being a bit ironic, funny even, that people would put a Santa Claus doll on a gravesite. Indicative of the fun, the memories they had of Christmas with their deceased loved one? Definitely a lighthearted thing to do, hence the caption, "May your hearts be light." Instead of letting the scene stand for what it simply was I could have added my own conceit and captioned it "Santa Claus died for your sins" or something. There's also something slightly compelling about a crucified Santa this time of year, especially now, the day after Christmas. I meant no offense to Stephen with the "smartass" comment and it appears as tho he's taken none. It may simply take a slightly twisted bent to see the scene. You can find some rather telling visuals at cemeteries.
