Just how heavy is a Leicaflex?

Recommended Posts

Just out of curiosity:

the weight of my SL2 a few minutes ago was 1,147 g.

This includes the 50 mm- Summicron lens altered to 3-cam, the hood

and a KODAK film.

Without the lens, no cap: 801 g.

This confirmes the figures posted above.

Best wishes

and good shooting

I got the weight of the SL from the Leica Manual. It may actually

weigh less than that because the 1185 weight may have been with a

chrome lens and I assumed a black lens.

I got the weight of the SL/2 from an SL/2 brochure (the infamous

nipple version:-)).

My Leicaflex SL body weighs 757g, the Summicron-R 50 (1st Type, 3-cam) is 322g for a

total of 1079g. The ever-ready case, which is the late black leather type with a square

shape and a plastic leica badge weighs 354g giving a total of 1433g ready to go.

The dimensions of the camera body are 148mm long x 98mm high x 52.8mm deep i.e.

the same size and weight as a Nikkormat. In the hand, the body shape fits perfectly in the

hand with the curved back and all the contols are idealy placed. Then there is the fantastic

bright viewfinder...
