Opening a Speed Finder

Hi all,

I've just got my Speed Finder for the mechanical F1, and there seems

to be some dust in the finder, most probably at the interface

between the two prisms (where the finder can be rotated).

Has any of you already opened a Speed Finder, and is it an easy

operation ?

Thanking you in advance for any advice,

Daniel

Piece of cake. I used goof-off and wooden tongue depressors to peel off the leatherette. Once that is done it can be easily disassembled with the correct small screwdriver. This was bought at Sears in the automotive department, 41676 PH000 x 40 is what I used. I cleaned the two solid prisms in naphtha and let air dry (thank you Alan for that tip). Work with link-free darkroom gloves for re-assembly. I didn't want to use grease for the rotational part so I used a small dab of Chapstick and it worked fine. Use pliobond adhesive for reattaching the leatherette. Rubber cement is too strong and will not allow removal next time around. Don't expect perfection unless you have access to a professionally clean lab although you can improve the finder by a far sight and your time will be well spent.
