I have heard that the 300 f2.8 IS has produced a very good bokeh and stacking effect. It is frequently used in fashion photography. Has anyone given it a try. I would appreciate if you could post some pictures taken by that lens. The bokeh must be astonishing! 1200 f5.6 is simply too EXPENSIVE for everyone. john_jovic Posted October 5, 2005 Share Posted October 5, 2005 Hard question because almost any lens can be used to get an interesting portrait by exploiting the particular quality a lens offers. If I had to pick one, I'd probably pick the Canon EF 85/1.2 with the intention of using it wide open on a FF body. When I was using Leica for work I used to use the APO R 180/2.0 exclusively wide open for tight head shots, stunning images, virtually no depth of field yet razor sharp on the focus plane. Also used the 80/1.4 for wider shots but usually at f2.0 where its image quality was extremely good. Jumped ship and using EOS now but I still have all the leica gear and some REOS adapters. You can use just about anything you want really but I <i>choose</i> to use the 70-200 over the 17-35 when taking peoples pictures because I prefer the results.
