Funky classics part 2

Recommended Posts

Last April I posted some results of my "lens hacking" with a 2x3 Speed

Graphic and various oddball lenses - see here:

Some of you expressed interest in this type of fooling around, so

here's an update...

This project has been on a backburner for a while, but a few days ago

I continued in more or less the same vein.

However, this time the tools were different - in the meantime I've got

a Speed Graphic in 4x5 format, so I thought I'd try some vintage

lenses to see where it gets me.

The results are surprising - photos (i.e. scanned 4x5 negatives) are

much better and sharper than I thought... I was hoping for something

more "mushy" and Holga-esque :)

Still, the images have some of that vintage "feeling". I like the

results, although they did not turn quite as "bad" as I expected.

Anyway, a few shots can be found here:

It looks like I'll have to do some more "hacking" with homemade lenses

and "lenses" to get the results I'm after: like I said, it would be

something in the vein of Robb Kendrick's tintype look, or perhaps

something like Mark Tucker does - sans Photoshop :)

BTW, just today I got an Aero Ektar, so you can expect some more

photos in the near future - as soon as I find out how to mount that

monster on the Speed Graphic without breaking the front standard. I'll

have to devise a bracket of some kind... ;)

Regards,
