watermelon
Hiya, As a very poor photo student, I am looking to buy a Bronica SQA for those times when a university '7 or Hassy isn't avalible... To raise funds I plan to sell my sb-600 flash which gets very little use and replace it with something cheaper and basic enough to use well with both the D70 and Bronica... Any ideas? Thanks! mike butler
I'd keep your SB 600 for the D70. You can get a vivitar 283 or 285 for the Bronica for $75 or so, less than that at keh. What's good for the bronica might wreak havoc with newer electronics. Hope that helps a little.
picturesque
Either a Vivitar 285 or a Sunpak 383. The 383 is similar to the 285, except it has a swiveling head. Vivitar only has tilt. Both can be gotten used. Have the sync voltage checked so you don't fry your D70. These are auto thyristor flashes, so they won't work in iTTL mode with the D70. work-page
Isn't the SB600 able to go outside iTTL mode? If you put it in manual, you can set the flash level from full to 1/64 and anywhere in between. That would be ideal in a studio environment, where you want accurate and predictable control of the flash output. The only thing needed are a generic pc-cord and a generic pc-cord to hot shoe adapter. These shouldn't cost a fortune. Besides, you'd need them with whatever flash you'd get.
