craig_h1
I have a Nikon F with a scratch on the pressure plate. Is there a way to get the scratch out, or should I replace the pressure plate? Does anyone have a spare pressure plate. Thank you in advance. Craig
michaelging
Craig, a scratch in the pressure plate will have no effect on the film. If you wanted to replace the Back you can find them pretty easly on the auction site.
craig_h1
The scratch on the plate scratches my film. I refuse to go on e-bay. They refuse to offer a phone number for customer service. That is a terrible policy. Craig
michaelging
If the scratch is not too deep you might be able to have it buffed out. Maybe someone here in the forum has a back they would be willing to part with.
Matthew Currie
Depending on the scratch, you might try getting it out with the finest wet-dry sandpaper you can find, or with crocus cloth. Or perhaps with a mild abrasive such as automotive rubbing compound. Just make sure you clean off all the residue. Crocus cloth leaves traces. Have you tried KEH.com for a back? They might even have something usable in their "as is" section, if all you need is the plate.
nikos peri
Here's an easy one... scotch tape. Cover the plate with scotch tape evenly. If by "scratch" you mean a 2mm rip with jagged metal edges protuding and shredding your film... then some good buffing first, but it'll work. jack_fisher1
Craig, I have a good used pressure plate for Nikon F. Send e-mail with your address, and I will mail it to you. Jack e-mail: jfisher@plateautel.net
david_h._hartman
You might sand the scratch lightly with super fine #1,000 Norton Abrasives W/D sand paper. It's used in automotive painting. You would not want to remove the black anodizing from the pressure plate so I'd use protective masking tape very close to the scratch then black in the scratch itself. I don't know if it's still made but you might try flat black VHT Motorcycle Case Paint. It came in an aerosol can. I'd spray it on a paper plate and then apply it with a fine brush. Finally I would buff it smooth. YMMV
