Thanks for the hairlight advice

I posted a question a week ago or so about getting good separation

between a black backdrop and the subject. I was using a large

SoftLighterII for key, a 60" umbrella for a fill and a Sunpak 383 for

a hairlight.

Someone suggested that I just use the SoftLighter alone and close to

the subject and I should get enough wrap around to not need a fill. I

did just that and used the other stobe with a 20deg honeycomb grid as

a hairlight. The Sunpak just wasn't powerful enough, even with a snoot.

I took most of the portraits yesterday and after 200 images I think it

went pretty well. Here's one quick example, a straight conversion

from RAW and resized:

Thanks again to all of your advice. Tomorrow and Wednesday I'm

going to shoot the performance, a venue in which I'm a lot more practiced.
