elijah_free
My M7 had dust in the finder. It is an early model M7 with the older finder. I asked Leica if they would upgrade it to an MP finder. And they did at no charge. Personally, I find this above and beyond the call of duty. They were very courteous, fast, and did a great job. So, just wanted to say, thank you to Leica. Great guys! kent_tolley2
Wow! I would not have suspected them to be this generous. Is your M7 still under warantee?
john_layton
And I just got my Hammertone MP back from Leica - with finder cleaned and sealed, more responsive light meter, and shutter button truly smooth as silk! Was thinking I might sell this piece - but now I'm not so sure!
elijah_free
Yes, it was under warentee. But Leica was under no obligation at all to upgrade to the MP finder. Personally, I do not understand why people need to bash Leica. I have always found the Leica folks ready to help out and to go the extra mile. Perhaps it is the way that some people begin their interactions with Leica or maybe with others in their lives also. That old adage, you reap what you sow can be accurate. Anyhow, I hope that this sheds a new and better light on Leica for some. regards, elijah
nasmformyzombie
Of course one could ask the question how is it a $3000 camera has such a flawed viewfinder that is in need of an "upgrade" while still under warranty. :(
tom5
A couple of years ago, the black bumper dot on the rear door of my M6TTL fell off. I contacted Dave Elwell at Leica NJ and he sent me a new dot. One of my lenses recently lost its red dot and again Dave Elwell sent one of those - fast, polite, and free.
bobtodrick
That's right Gary...it cost 3 grand...it must be perfect. Gee, I wonder how all those automobiles get recalled...I wonder how come there are all those computer software and hardware 'upgrades'. Yup, Leica's should be perfect man...geeez! bernard_korites
I have a 3 year old Nikon FM10 that's been dropped, banged, bumped and sprayed with salt water and there's no dust in the viewfinder and nothing has ever fallen off. It cost me $209 new.
tom h.
I had occasion to return three fairly significant repairs to Leica in Solms last year and found them to be extraordinarily competent, polite and informative. Everything came back functioning like new (REALLY like new). One of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Not specially cheap, or fast, but then, well built mechanical instruments and their (inherently implied) maintenance rarely are.
35mmdelux
come on guys! why do you think they have been top of the line for so many years? I've always found them friendly to deal with. 10 years ago I sent them my M4-P for a CLA. I got it back in 3 weeks with a collection of excellent Leica magazines that I review to this day. gus_gus1
Elijah, get a load of this. Some years ago I bought a used Leica RE. After about a year or so the electronics went out. (not a battery problem). I sent it to Leica for repaires. To my shock they sent me a brand new RE,with a short note saying my camera had electronic problems. They sent me brand new camera in box with manual and all warrenty cards, ect, ect. The RE I sent in must have been at least 5 yrs old. Thats service.
