john_philllips
I have a 3.5F with a Planar taking lens in the serial number range of 4xxxx, and a Heidosmat viewing lense in the 3xxx range. the camera number is 225xxxx. I've been told the 6-element planars were above 4xxxxx, but that these didn't start appearing on cameras until around 228xxxx. Trying to determine whether the lense SN's are consistent with each other and with the camera SN. Any thoughts appreciated.
fwstutterheim
Your camera with number 2,25x,xxx is an early third model 3.5 F and should have the 6- element Planar. According to Mr. Prochnow's book the 6-element Planar started with the third model at lens number 2,753,002. His book also shows a photograph of a second model 3.5F with a Planar in the 2,989,xxx range. As far as I know there is no definitive list of lens numbers linked to camera numbers. I would like to add that the 6-element lenses were no better than the 5-element ones. They were cheaper to produce in the required quality. This 5/6 element matter is a bit of a hype.
