nabman - montreal, canada
Hi, Is there a non-SLR, digital camera that:
- has what it takes to deliver 35mm-film-quality prints up to 5x7 (and good quality 8x10s)
- has a fast, f/2.8 midrange zoom lens (24-85...35-105? 35mm-equivalent)
- does exposure lock
- does focus lock
- its built-in flash (if any) is defeatable
- preferrably saves in "RAW" format
- shows histogram info
- has a standard hot-shoe flash mount or a PC plug
- allows shooting in program, shutter priority & aperture priority
- runs on AA or AAA batteries
- uses industry standard storage media
- is in the US$ 300-500 range
Thanks for your responses.
tommyinca
You can get a used Canon G3 or G5 for less then $300. May me the only thing you won't get is the use of AA batteries (not environmental friendly anyway).
godfrey
All except the AA or AAA batteries, and you need an adapter to use a standard ISO hot-shoe flash: Konica Minolta A2. 13x19" prints are no problem. I paid $490 for mine as a refurb. Godfrey
Brian
There is a site called dpreview.com that lists all available digital cameras with specifications and I think will even allow you to search on features. Have a look there and see what comes up.

The Oly 5060 does most of your list except the AA batteries, but if you look into camera performance you will find that most of the better ones have gone for proprietary Li-ion batteries because of the much longer life.
