daniel_lunghi
Hi there Does anyone know if this flash works with a Canon 20D? ive tried it out, and for whatever reason, it only seems to get a good exposure when im bouncing it of a ceiling or wall. Could something be wrong with the unit? I recently bought it used. Thanks, Daniel
fotografz
Do you have the Canon TTL module for the Sunpak? I wonder if that module supports Canon's newer ETTL on the 20D?
daniel_lunghi
Yes i have the moduel, but im wondering the same with the newer TTL on the 20D.... I actually bought the flash for my hassy 503 cxi, but also bought a moduel for my eos 1n... just haven't put it through a test on iether the 503 or 1n. would still like to know if anyone knows about the 20D issue... thanks Daniel
bruce_rubenstein___nyc
I don't think that Sunpack has up dated their TTL module for any of the newer TTL modes of the DSLRs from either Canon or Nikon.
jimstrutz
You can still use the Sunpak, but only in auto mode. Forget about TTL until Sunpak comes out with an E-TTL compatible module - if they ever do. You're not missing much with auto flash anyway.
picturesque
With the 20D--no, only in auto thyristor and manual.
steve_hovland
Call or write Sunpak. I got a reasonably quick response to an email.
scott squire nonfiction
I have wondered about this too. Why would they call it ETTL if it's only usable on Auto and Manual? I'm not arguing, just asking. I had a wobbly old second hand one of these with a Nikon module, and it worked great in TTL on film, plus I liked the light it made. I'd like to have one for my Canon DSLRs.
jimstrutz
Scott, I don't think Sunpak says that it will do E-TTL, just TTL. The Canon digitals can't do TTL, just E-TTL. This is the same situation for Nikon. You have to have the latest flash technology to use them with the latest digital cameras. The work around is to switch to the old style autoflash units that don't rely on the camera body for metering.
scott squire nonfiction
Interesting. I must have been thinking of the Quantum--pretty sure they address the ETTL thing. So, does this mean there's no benefit to spending the extra dough for the TTL model Sunpak? Thanks,Scott
