dave_chadderton
Looks nice. Price is a killer though. Is the 50/1.4 the same lens formula as the newest floating element 50/1.4 Summilux? Just curious (as I like the design).
paul_chan4
The 50mm 'lux is the current Asph version. Yeah, a down-to-earth killer both price and performance-wise.

terry_rory
"Yeah, a down-to-earth killer both price and performance-wise." Really? At Robert Whites price of 4764 + 17.5 percent VAT that is 5597.70 GB pounds. Hardly down to earth! (Not that any will make it further than a glass cabinet or safe so it does not matter what the performance will be as breaking the seal on the box will diminish the value.) craig_zeni
Hmmm. That doesn't look like the 50/1.4 ASPH to me...the new 50/1.4 has a built in hood.
Rob F.
"That doesn't look like the 50/1.4 ASPH to me..." I think the idea is that the ASPH formula was put into the original Summilux mount. A nice looking lens barrel--I always liked the cross-hatching machined into it at the base, next to the bayonet mount. Lots of nice, fussy details to make it pretty. This is a modern Leica and lens in retro clothing. Current technology, old fashioned looks. Such things help keep Leica afloat, assuming enough people will buy it. icuneko
Jeez Louise! Staring at those alternating black and chrome pics of the LHSA MP3 and lens sent me into a seizure. When I came out of it, my credit card was lying next to the keyboard, and my email had an "Order Received on September ..." message in the in-box from Sucker Camera. What am I gonna tell my spouse? jerry_lehrer
Dave-- I notice that the shutter speed dial is notched for an MR type external exposure meter. I would have thought that an M6 type internal meter would be on it. Jerry
harvey_edelstein1
For that price you get German engineering, but it should include the German engineer too for CLA shutter speed and meter calibration.
dave_chadderton
"but it should include the German engineer too" Preferably, tall, blond and female. As Trevor says, 5k ukp for that is some going ... I can't imagine there'll be many takers. Unless we raid Robert Whites ..??
ulrik
Wow, this camera also features the external frame counter of my Leica M2 (which is the only feature of the M2 camera where I would prefer the more common design because sometimes I manage to turn the counter dial accidently) Ulrik. Rob F.
Evidently there is something "pro" about a manual setting frame counter--else, why did they use it on the MP? Maybe the advantage is that you can reset it to keep track of how many frames are in a given sequence? It's not such a bad thing, it has never bothered me in 44 years of using my M2. Nowhereman
Looks like it would be a nice camera if it had the M3/M6-type internal frame counter, the M6 rewind lever and the built-in lens hood of the newer Summiluxes. --Mitch/Bangkok
john15
The cute way it changes back and forth between black paint and chrome makes it worth every panny.
Rob F.
Yeah, and the rewind knob turns by itself, and the serial number changes! Wow!
eric_hurtado
Just a little question about the original MP and MP3 design.. Why Leica , for a professional camera, had chosen the"cheapest" M2 frame counter and not the M3 one's?

bob haight
$8535.91 for the kit from Robert White. Ouch!
ben z
Look at the eyepiece mount on the silver camera. It's silver, looks like the old style threaded boss that doesn't need caulking. I wonder if that was something the LHSA requested or if Leica is just going back to the old way from now on.
