How to spot meter using EOS -1v

Hello,

I am little unsure of how to spot meter using EOS 1V. I know how to

set the spot metering in EOS-1v.

I most always use "M" mode. However, when I set the "M" mode, I don't

see any reading change in Aperture and Time values, when I set the

spot meter. However when I use the Av/Tv mode, I do.

If one of you photonetters could give some steps, it would really help!

Thank you and regards,

M means MANUAL mode; it means YOU select the aperture and shutter speed you want; these settings won't change regardless of which metering mode you select. What will change is the camera's meter indication to the right of the viewfinder.

When you change the aperture and/or shutter speed, the pointer will move up or down the exposure scale; when the pointer is in the center, the camera's meter is indicating correct exposure.

The most important thing to realize about spot metering is it lacks compensation algorithms and therefore is extremely sensitive to where you point it. If you point at a white or black object in the same light you get totally different readings. Why? The spot is calibrated to average or mid-tone (18% gray). Thus, try to meter off mid-tones, e.g., northern blue sky, green grass, most tree bark, etc. With a little practice you can learn how much light to add or subtract from lighter or darker objects (e.g., some guys meter their palm and add 1.5 to 2 stops).

Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see.
