philippe_metayer
What do you think is the future of Polaroid 8X10 film? Do you think that Polaroid will stop producing it in the near future? I am thinking of buying an 8X10 camera but I would not do so if Polaroid were to discontinue their 8X10 film in the next ten years. I shoot strictly on Polaroid type 53, 54 and 59 films. However, it would be nice sometimes to have bigger images obtained the same way (I have no interest in darkrooms and computers and I am quite satisfied with 1/1 images). Thanks for reading; thanks for your answers and opinions.
randall ellis
No one can say for sure, except Polaroid. If you were to ask them, you might get the stock answer "We are doing fine, don't worry about product availabiliy..." or "I'll have to get back to you on that one..." or they may be honest and tell you what their plan as far as today is. Unfortunately, the track record established by large corporations in recent times casts them in poor light, at least as far as honesty goes. At any rate, you have nothing to lose by asking them about it. Even if they say today they are %100 percent behind keeping it, next week all bets could be off. I would just go on with your plans, and if they decide to drop it, stock up and freeze. - Randy
profhlynnjones
Hi Philippe, I've been shooting 8x10 for 50 years and have never used polaroid for it. Frankly, I prefer "real film" rather than the polaroid products. Since there was never much volume in Pol 8x10, I'll be surprised if it lasts very long. tedharris
Also, you can't freeze it. You can store it refrigerated for weveral years past expiration. If you freeze it the developing pods are not likely to work when thawed.
