carl_bretteville
Anyone have an idea as to how long I can expect a Wein Zinc-Air cell to last in a Leicameter MR4? Cheers, - Carl
Rob F.
Only a few months. It matters less which meter or camera it is in, and more that this type of cell becomes quickly exhausted from continued exposure to air. The cell will last longer if you re-cover the air holes when not in use. I sent my MR-4 to Sherry. She recalibrated it for an alkaline cell that fits it. mark-j
Rob: What did Sherry charge to recalibrate your MR-4 meter? Thanks. Mark J.
charles_stobbs3
I have read of people leaving only one hole uncovered to prolong the life, especially when used in low drain devices which I suspect a meter is.
grinder
Carl, I can not speak for wien cells but I use super cheap hearing aid zinc airs in my minolta autocord they last about 4 months and the meter is dead on. and 6 cost 4 dollars. give it a try if your not happy you are only out the cost of one wein cell. IMO the wein cell is a bunch of marketing hype and truly not anything special. Good luck with whatever you try.
carl_bretteville
Don, Do you have a type/name on the cells you use?
jtk
Wein cells die fast, just sitting. Less than a year. Quick-n'-dirty for Ebay.
jerry_lehrer
The battery to use in an MR-4 is a 625 SILVER cell. They have a far more constant voltage over their life. Even a smaller diameter #76 silver cell, with an O-ring as a spacer, is FAR better than a zinc-air cell. Jerry
Rob F.
Mark: Sherry charges me $38.00, but that included installing a missing washer. Which washer, I don't know. Total was $30.00 labor, $8.00 parts.
