rjacksonphoto
I recently acquired a Tower number 7 box camera that appears to be in pretty good shape. It has a bulb setting, which is nice. My question is does anyone know what the aperture and shutter speed are for this camera? Thanks.
glenn_thoreson
Try posting this in the classic cameras forum. The shutter speed is probably somewhere in the 1/25 - 1/50 range.
connealy
Tower was a Sears brand, but they used a number of manufacturers. My Tower 8, a metal 120 box camera, was actually a Bilora made in Germany. You won't be far off with any old box camera assuming 1/30 to 1/60 sec. at f/16. I usually use 100-speed film in my box cameras because it is conveniently available, but in bright sun that gives a stop or two over exposure. That's not really a problem with b&w or color print film as you will have enough exposure latitude to get you in the ballpark. Load it up and give it a try. You may be surprised at the quality if you can manage to hold it steady during the exposure.
rjacksonphoto
Thanks for the responses. Mike, those numbers will serve as a starting point. In addition to a bulb setting, this thing has a tripod socket!
linda_williams2
I also just purchased a Tower Model 7 Box Camera. I picked it up a a second hand ship for $17.00/ I would also like to know about the shutter speed setting. I have a time setting that I assume I can attach a cable release to and extend the exposure time. Do you know what year the camera was made and what company made it.
