simone_ricci
Dears, I am new in this forum. I'm Italian and sorry for my bed english. Few days ago I buyed one used LS-1000 NIKON Film Scan. I solved a lot of problems with my Win2000 pc. The Nikon standard software don't work because Windows don't see the scanner. In fact in 'Device Manager' the scanner is present but in yellow status because the right Window driver is not present. I don't found the right driver for Win2000. The I try VUESCAN. VUESCAN see the scanner correctly and with it I can scan slide films. But the results is very very poor. I obteined very bad images. I try to change sevaral parameters like resolution and others and the new results is only little bit better. The result remains very unsatisfied. The imeges are very very bad. Also the scan time is too many high: about 4-5 minutes for each slides. Are there somebody can help me to solve my problem? Thank you in advance. yoni_weismuller
Hi I'm using a ls-1000 under win xp pro. I would advise you to do the following: - uninstall everything, including your scsi card, drivers, etc- install again from scratch. Search at comp.periphs.scanners something like "ls-1000 win xp" - there's a recent post that might help you. If problems arise again, it might be the scanner, not your system nor the software. My ls takes around 40secs to scan a frame, i have no problems using nikonscan (apart from its poor quality) and vuescan just produces nice scans. regards
User_1172872
For the Nikon software - did you download the ASPI layer from adaptec?
mendel_leisk
If this is your first experience with Vuescan, just to let you know, there is something buggy with it's cropping function. Hopefully it will be fixed with a new release or two. I think there are places you can download the older versions.
mendel_leisk
To clarify, Vuescan's buggy cropping just started in the latest 1 or 2 releases. Just "cropped up", if you will... (collective groan)
simone_ricci
Thank you a lot to everybody. Thanks Canon. Yes, I downloaded and installed last versione of ASPI. Thanks Mendel. I found VueScan Version 8.1.24 only in internet! What do you think? I need an older version? If yes can you help me? Thanks Yoni. Today or tomarrow I'm going to try with an older version of VueScan. If don't work properly I'm going to try SILVERFAST. If don't work properly I try to execute your suggested procedure. But I don't find any useful note into comp.periphs.scanners. What version of NikonScan do you use? My version 1.6.3 don't work succesfully because at start I receive "No scan device found" error message. Thank you again. mendel_leisk
Give 8.1.24 a try. If there is a problem, I have quite a few of the older verions. I think I saw a site somewhere, that had the older version (or just reviews?). Will look. Be patient, Vuescan takes a while, there are a many settings that could effect your output. Particularly the Input and Color tabs. Personally, I only use it now for scan-from-disk, sources from "linear" files previously made with my scanner's software, for various reasons. mendel_leisk
Ok, at this link at Version Tracker: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/search.php?mode=basic&action=search&str=VUESCAN&plt%5B%5D=windows Click on the download link, then you have the option to revise the version you wish to download

simone_ricci
Dears all, thank you very much for your collaboration. Dear Mendel in Version Tracker it's impossible to download any old versions about VUESCAN. It's present the process in order to choice one specific version but at the end of this process you can download only last version. Dear Yoni yesterday I executed the same procedure exept the Windows Update. I agree with you: it isn't essential for the correct scan process. The results after my yesterday activity is the same: very bad images! I think there is an hardware problem in my LS-1000.In fact I tried SILVERFAST and after few scecond I received anerror message like "It's impossible to scan. Focus phase failed'.But the scanner is activated by SILVERFAST: the scanner catch the slide. VUESCAN (two different versions) don't produce this kind of error, but it can only produce very very bad images instead. I would like to know your opinions. I think the scanner is broken. And you? If you agree I need an other your opinion: what do you suggest to me? Repair it, if possible? It's convenient? In ItalyI think it will be necessary a lot of euro! Do you suggest to me to by one new filmscan model instead (but with a medium-low cost)? Dears all, thank you very much for your collaboration again! You are wonderful and with a lot of competence. Best regards. Simone Ricci.
yoni_weismuller
I'm not an expert, just an hobbytist, but it looks like a hardware fault to me. Don't know if it would be worth repairing it. however, take into consideration that high end flatbeds probably produce better scans that our old ls-1000s. (take a look at www.photo-i.co.uk.) So, i hope you can finally get the ls-1000 to work. But if not, maybe an epson 4180 or even 3170 would be an option to consider. regards.
