johnmarkpainter
Not nearly as significant as the loss of lives in New Orleans, but has anyone heard what happened to "A Gallery" on Chartres Street? http://www.agallery.com/
andy m.
A wonderful gallery/shop. I will never forget seeing really fine B+W images there (the first time for me) ten years ago.
rich815
If you put their addess in Google Maps and then hit the red "Katrina" button for a satellite image taken last Wedndesday it does not appear to be under water, at least at the time. Looting and other collateral damage is still a possibility...
david k.
About fifteen years ago I visited the gallery, and I also was amazed at the fabulously wide selection of prints by all the big names. It made quite an impression on me, I dropped in every day I was in town, to look at these classic B&W fine prints. Lets hope it was saved from not only the water, but also the looting. thom_bennett
I saw Josh Pailet, the owner of "A Gallery for Fine Photography" on the local (Baton Rouge, LA) news last night. He had stayed during and after the storm and only left because of a fire down river and the sulphuric smoke that was blanketing the French Quarter was burning his eyes. He said they had no flooding there and that he didn't see any looters in his area or on the route that he left the city. The French Quarter is where the original settlement was built because it is the highest ground around. Hope the city will be rebuilt to some semblance of its former beauty.
