Troll
Has anyone ever compared the 45mm Tessar on the early Contaflexs with the 50mm on the later ones?
brian_schall
I have both and both look very sharp. I have not done any scientific side-by-side studies but my negatives from each look good to me. I'm contemplating selling my II with the Telescop because I never use it. I also have a III and Rapid.
gib
The 50mm f2.8 recomputed Pro-Tessar is probably the sharpest 50mm lens I have and that includes a Pentax Super Takumar f1.4, CV Nokton 50 f1.5, Nikkor 50 f1.4 1.8, and 2.0 - if I was smart I would sell everything else and shoot the Contaflex...the 35mm lens for it is also no slouch. paul s
I have two different 45/2.8 Tessars on my two Contaflex I's. One is a Carl Zeiss Tessar (West german) and the other is a CZ-Jena Tessar (East German). Otherwise, the bodies are identical. -Paul
stwrtertbsratbs5
I own the 50/2.8 and, yes, it is really sharp. i also really like the 35mm and 85mm lenses, and the 115mm is very good, too. Robert
daniel_iggers
I'm confused. There is the 45mm Tessar on the early Contaflex, and the 50mm Tessar on later ones. Is that 50mm, such as those found on the Contaflex IV with the selenium meter with the rectangular hinged metal cover, the "Pro-Tessar", or those found on the Contaflex Super with the aperture wheel, or is the re-computed Pro-Tessar an even later and finer lens? nickc1
AFAIK the Pro-Tessar is the name given to a Tessar where the front element can be swapped to give the different focal lengths - the design of the whole shooting match is a Tessar though. gib
You may find some helpful information at this site http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/ go to photographica and then to Zeiss and Contaflex SLR
paul s
The 45mm Tessars are front element focusing. I think the 50mm Tessar's are unit focusing. That could improve the performance at closer than infinity settings. -Paul Shinkawa

stwrtertbsratbs5
My lens is the later, recomputed model that came with my Super B. Nice lens! Robert
fernando_mcsoto
There is a 50mm Tessar, a 45mm Tessar and a 45mm Plantar. The Contaflex with the Plantar lens has a Prontor Reflex shutter.<div></div>
