ilkka_nissila
Yes, it could be that the mamiya 7 system will be discontinued. I bought the camera for wide angle landscape and architecture work and I have my 50mm and 80mm lenses and have no essential need to expand the setup, except get the scanner and maybe a 150mm to avoid the need to carry a Nikon for tele. I don't think the camera will break in my use and in any case the camera is common enough that replacements can be obtained on the used market. I do not know of any digital system with a reasonable price which would give comparable image quality in wide angle shots. Sometimes new technology isn't an improvement (unlike with tele shots, where the D200 is phenomenal).
EricM
12 meg and a 17-55 is good enough for me. <br><br><center><img src="http://www.ericmilner.com/photos/pn0423069/images/060416%20%20(3)aaaaa.jpg"></center><br><br>br><br> <center><img src="http://www.ericmilner.com/photos/pn0423069/images/060416%20%20(3)aa.jpg"></center><br><br> <center><img src="http://www.ericmilner.com/photos/pn0423069/images/060416%20%20(3)a.jpg"></center><br><br> <center><img src="http://www.ericmilner.com/photos/pn0423069/images/060416%20%20(3)aaa.jpg"></center><br><br> <center><img src="http://www.ericmilner.com/photos/pn0423069/images/060416%20%20(3)aaaa.jpg"></center><br><br>
vivek iyer
Sell the Mamiya and get a view camera, Ilkka. Buy something that has no electronics whatsoever. My 4x5 rangefinder with a Biogon 75/4.5, I cobbled it together from a Cambo Polaroid. Not cheap but is a worthwhile set up for me.
ilkka_nissila
Vivek, I currently live in the Boston area. A view camera would be blown to the Atlantic in no time. The winds here can be quite strong. That's why I bought the Mamiya instead of a view camera. Also more compact and easier on my back. In any case there is no way I will sell the Mamiya. Eric, I agree the 17-55 is a nice lens, I've used it a bit. We'll see, maybe I will get one. I would prefer a lens of the size of my 20 mm AF-D for crowd shots (I just hate it when people come to talk to me and say "Wow, that's a BIG lens" and that's why I've been holding out and waiting for DX primes which might fit me better. I have to say though that the quality of the 17-55 is well, extraordinary.
vivek iyer
The Biogon 75/4.5 is twice as heavy as the Mamiya 7II, for example. It is wind proof and even survives in the flatlands here.
ilkka_nissila
Ok, but my Mamiya works fine and I'm happy with it. Repair of Mamiya equipment is supposed to transfer to the new company so there shoulnd't be any problem. I'm thinking about selling my 14 mm Nikkor to partly fund a 17-55 DX. I am sure that the next day after I do that, Nikon announces both DX wide primes and a new FF DSLR model, to make me feel miserable.
vivek iyer
No, you won't miss that 14mm lens on a FF dSLR. Just do it, Ilkka.
