steve_barrett
Does anyone have experience using the Pentax M2.8/100mm lens? I'm thinking of getting one and would like to hear some opinions about it.
wim_van_velzen
Hi Steve,
It is a very nice little lens. I like it for portraits or for light travel photography. Maybe not as sharp as my Macro 100 4.0, but certainly worth it.
With Pentax primes (and a lot of their zooms) you cannot go wrong!
Wim
rod_sainty2
Hi Steve, Pop Photo tested the M 100mm f2.8 in May 1979 within its review of the MX camera. The four contrast graphs show contrast to hold up impressively from centre to far edge with the highest contrast at f5.6 (centre 77% edge 70%), with contrast at f8 almost the same. The star test showed coma and astigmatism under control (read: absent) at f2.8, and perfect centering, all of which suggests excellent resolution. Moderate lateral chromatic aberration was present at the far edge. There was no distortion. As said above, you can't go wrong with a Pentax fixed focal length lens. michellemandat
I suggest that you take the more recent version "A" which is excellent and in my opinion one of the sharpest for the *IST-DS.
astral
I feel that my 100/2.8 M is not quite as sharp as my 135/3.5 M. Nice focal length tho'. There are some user comments (suggesting the later versions are better) at: http://stans-photography.info/LongComments.html
