fochoa
Since the whole complaining thing started, i think there are good things but bad things about this. 1. NO more mate rating 2. Top photos of different people (were we all tired of the same guys and gals?) 3. People had become a vengeance raters 4. The rate photos i think the thumbnails should look like the original photo! 5. Variety has come! (point 2 redundance) 6. Newcomers... The solution i dont think its eliminating the anonymous rating this, yet it has been more and more used (i ask myself why? but cant find the answer ;), while i think it adds variety of people we didnt know which is a total plus to it; I see a rating of 3/3 on my photo after just one second of uploading it! are there bots running out there? i dont know, a good thing is making a script with a delay of 3 seconds that everyone cant rate the photo, just 3 secs (Brian?). I know its hard at first to get used to the site (Newcomers) so i dont complain that much. And no more mate rating. Ciao!
melresnick
Now that makes sense. A person or a bot should have to spend at least three seconds to consider the merits of a photo before giving it a rating. Maybe even five seconds. I've had the same experience. In the second or so it takes me to click on the critiques/ratings request button and then click back to my own photo's detail, there's already a 3/3 waiting for me. fochoa
i really dont know, but it could be a very bothering people who made the bot, but i'm not sure anyway, let Brian answer this.
root
If you rate it too quickly, you would get an error message telling you to t-a-k-e y-o-u-r t-i-m-e, evaluate the lighting, consider the composition, look for aspects of the photo that are interesting or unusual, etc. . . . . . fochoa
then its a bot or something really weird
fochoa
we have to take in count that the photos are not sent instantly to the critique forum nor the rate photos too.
fochoa
For those who dont know. A bot, is a script that runs in a server, and does something automatically again and again, or as wished.
mrstubbs
Why anonymous? Because we are! If we choose to become non anonymous, where do we stop? ...Now I know your name...I want to know which camera you use...why do you use that camera? ....because it's cheaper?...because you can't afford a better one?...Ah! you earn less than me!...I am better than you! Your opinion does not matter!...You are less educated!...Your view is not the same as mine!...your picture is not as important...I will rate you lower...you know my name....you hunt me down...you shoot me! I would rather be anonymous thanks! Happy Sunday shooting. ;-)
fochoa
Nice Anthony, i'm not against the anonymous raters, i'm just saying the advantages and disadvantages, i'm not against, just displaying what its true. And your point of view and way of posting is interesting to me. Happy sunday shooting to you too!
leorossi
I think it's a bot, Fernando. Same instant thing happened here. http://www.photo.net/photo/4312417
john falkenstine
The reality bot. Somebody doesn't like your image, or perhaps likes it with some reservations. That's all there's to it. Brrrutally simple. Not always easy to digest for any of us.
bdpics
What about the 7/7 bots? ? ?
fochoa
Dont get all sarcastic i'm saying: after just one or two seconds i went to view my image and there was a 3/3, and the photos are not posted that instantly to the rate photos nor the critique forum. fochoa
A 3/3 of a person who views it at least 10 seconds, then its worth or maybe not at all. But this is gross...
fochoa
<p align=justify> The least thing i wanted is stir up controversy so end of this post for me.</br>
melresnick
What do you think of Fernando's idea of a three second (or five second) delay before a rating can be submitted? Would it solve/create any problems? Is it technically feasible? Fernando, please stay with this. Let's see if we can get this thread back to dealing with your original post. Que te parece? ewtje
What we need is accountability. If we continue to allow anonymous ratings, we will allow people rate 3/3 for no reason and this will never stop. If the names are shown than they will be accountable for their ratings. We can now see who they are and put a stop to it and get fair ratings. keith turrill
In rate recent, I frequently step back in the browser and check or change a rating. It is very easy to miss details at first glance.
john falkenstine
Have you ever given thought to all of the images that get NO rating? That must be a bot as well.
fochoa
Ok i stay, but likely more watching, and no i dont think theres such a powerful bot to retrieve all the databases of each person, so thats why maybe; The one who made a bot like that would be a genius. fochoa
I'm not sure if its a bot, it just looks strange, but for doubts a script with 3 seconds delay would be good.
melresnick
Thanks, Fernando. Let's see what Brian thinks of all this. Do you think maybe he even took the weekend off? Hope so.... Any other administrators following this thread?
robert x
maybe the rating system should be changed to a one step process ? Step 1 : Do you like this photo ? Y/N Or perhaps with any rating you get, anonymous or otherwise, you can click on the rating and see all other photos given the same rating by that member....... root
That's what people are doing now. What they should be asked is "how does this image compare with others of its genre?"
fochoa
That will do the trick Robert and Carl, instead of thinking of PN as a fight club, it can be a lot more friendly and honest.
