tien_pham
Hi, I will make a trip to Houston in mid September. Can anyone give me some tips on where I should consider shooting in Houston? I will have to stay there for 3 days. Thanks in advance. tien pham.
ryan nutt
The zoo isn't bad. Memorial and Mecom Parks. Mercer Arboreteum (sp). The Police Memorial is supposed to be good for skylines. Brazos Bend State Park - a little outside of Houston. Cockrell Butterfly Center. You might also look over at texasphotoforums.com. There is a Houston section. stemked
Hi Tien. What kind of photography do you like to do? Houston has some really beautiful sky scrappers, and not all of them are downtown. If you are into nature there are a few parks within a couple of hours of the city. Galviston isn't all that far away and offers a Victorian town close to the beach. Galviston and the coast offer lots of marine opportunities. Houston also has very diverse immigrant populations and there are regular international events depending on when you will be there. On the east side of town is the San Jacinto monumen where the Texans routed the Mexican army), unofficially taller than the Washington monument (unofficially because they aren't supposed to be taller than the Washington monument so they don't count part of the museum in the star). Its been a while since I was there but there was a nice rose garden (can't recall exactly where). If I think of any others I'll let you know
tjavery
Yes, Mercer and the Police Officers Memorial are both great places. The TPF (Texas Photo Forums, <a href="http://www.texasphotoforum.com">www.texasphotoforum.com</a>) June and July shooting events happened to cover those locations. You can get more info and also look at members' photos here: <p> Downtown Houston Photo Shoot (June):<br> <a href="http://www.texasphotoforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5085">http://www.texasphotoforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5085</a> <p> Mercer Arboretum Photo Shoot (July):<br> <a href="http://www.texasphotoforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5962">http://www.texasphotoforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5962</a> <p> best regards,<br> TJ Avery<br> <a href="http://www.texbrick.com/photo">www.texbrick.com/photo</a>
rick_waldroup3
Someone help me here. I used to travel to Houston in the mid 80's and I remember a place called the "Orange House"? A really unique house dedicated to oranges in the middle of a neighborhood. Really cool! Does anyone know if it is still there?
geoff_sturm
It's called the Orange Show, and the Orange Show foundation sponsors the Art Car Parade, which isn't to be missed. You might also check out the beer can house, the flower man, many others. There's plenty of "outsider" art and roadside attractions all over Texas. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/TXHOUorange.html
rick_waldroup3
Thanks Geoff, I knew it had something to do with oranges. It really was a cool place. If you get chance Tien, check it out.
