bellavance
I'm looking for a fast 8GB Compact Flash Card for my Canon EOS 5D. I was going to buy the Sandisk 8GB Ultra II Card, but looking at the charts on Rob Galbraith's website - http://tinyurl.com/pozgp - I see that the 3.670MB/sec Sandisk 8GB Ultra II is slower than my 5.620MB/sec Sandisk 4GB Ultra II. Strange performance from the 8GB card, in my view, while Sandisk says of both cards: "Minimum 9MB/second sequential write speed..." Does anyone know why the 8GB is slower? Any suggestions for a fast 8GB Card for the 5D? Thanks. Pierre
steve torelli
Pierre, good luck with your search but I doubt you'd notice the speed differance between the two cards. I'd stay away from the really big cards, I've read of too many instances of card failure where people have lost all their pictures. Better to lose 2GB than 4 or 8. Current wisdom recommends using several smaller cards rather than one large one just in case. Again, good luck.
m3rdpwr
Unless you do rapid continuous shooting, I doubt that it will be a problem. The buffer in the 5D should be capable of making it unnoticable. But to answer your quesion, how About the 8GB Extreme III? I didn't check the spec's but I believe the Extreme's are faster than the Untra II's... http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1856)-SDCFX3-8192-SanDisk_Extreme_III_CompactFlash_8GB.aspx -Mario
jani_k
Pierre, Write/read speeds of memory cards slow down when size gets bigger. I think it is wiser to use smaller cards (lets say 4*2gb or 2*4gb) but if you have to shoot very very much within short period of time then I think it 8gb is usable. Sandisk Extreme could be a solution but do they make 8gb extreme? Jani
m3rdpwr
They do make an extreme. I posted a link in my previous post... -Mario
bellavance
Too bad Rob Galbraith hasn't tested it... Pierre
m_barbu1
Using the Extreme III would indeed be faster than the Ultra II. Whether or not you notice depends largely on where you need the speed. It'll be most noticeable when transferring the images to your computer via a CompactFlash card reader.
