meatwagon
OK im using the 300d with the moded firmware. I gives you the option of saving in raw with a jpg, I have it set to that, but whenever i take the photos it only saves the crw file and i never see the JPG file, Am i doing something wrong? thanks Jamie
JosvanEekelen
The file is "embedded", this means that 2 graphical files and perhaps some extra data are saved in one file with the extension .crw. Have a look at the Canon software, this gives you the option to extract and save the jpg file or to convert and save the raw file. Irfanview for instance will show the jpg file unless a few extra Canon routines are present on the PC. These will allow Irfanview to show the raw files. godfrey
Far as I'm aware, there's no way to extract the embedded JPEG in a .CRW file using Photoshop CS. Unless you want to use the Canon software to do it, the simplest thing you can do is create a script to batch convert the .CRW files to JPEG using the "As Shot" defaults. If you had Photoshop CS2, you could use Camera Raw v3.4, open all the .CRW files into Camera Raw simultaneously, and then RAW convert directly to JPEG format from Camera Raw. I do this as a matter of course when I need JPEG proofs so I never bother using the RAW +JPEG options on any cameras I've got that support it. mark from thailand
I find it much simpler to shoot in RAW & then, if you have to, use the PS CS2 Bridge Image processor to create the JPGs (Bridge -> Tools -> Photoshop -> Image Processor) from the images you want? andrew_certain
If you are a geek (or know one who will do you favors), you can use the exiftools to extract the JPG.
Andrew
