dave_nelson___atlanta__ga
I just had another horrible experience at the local photo store trying to get good prints. I have gotten excellent prints from them before, but it really is hit or miss. After talking with the employees there, they claimed that the Frontier system does not make any changes to the image before printing. So I showed them the image as it appears on the kiosk and it was agreed that the image was being brightened considerably before printing. But that it was something the system did and there were no adjustments that would stop it from happening. At another location of the same store I have had prints come out wrong and was told to request that they be printed without any adjustments next time, then 45 minutes later I had nearly perfect prints in my hand. But that location is in the middle of moving and I do not think any of the same employees work there any more. Is there some ?lingo? I could use to get this right? I get great prints from EZPrints, but when I am just looking for a handful of 4x6?s for the office, I would rather not pay extra for shipping and handling. jake_holt
Tell them to turn off "Image Intelligence." It is automatically applied to images that are sent to the Frontier from the kiosk, so the images will look normal on the kiosk and then very contrasty in the final print. If they don't know how, tell them to open the "Adjust" menu and then to check "select all" and uncheck "Image Intelligence." It's supposed to help out your average, underexposed point and shoot file, but if it's applied to a properly balanced file, it blows it out.
jakeholtphotography.com
sheldonnalos
Check out this website - www.drycreekphoto.com It has a lot of info about how the Frontier/Noritsu digital labs work and how to get good prints. If you're lucky, they may even have printer profiles for your local lab. Hope this helps! Sheldon
