matt_m__toronto_
ugh. forgot some film in my checked baggage yesterday. was only in there for 1way part of the trip. provia 100. what are we looking at here? i'm still going to develop the film, just wondering if any of you have had similar experiences. thanks
frederick_muller
Never had a problem. I think it's repeated exposure that kills. I wouldn't worry.
steve_unsworth1
Matt, if it's checked baggage rather than carry on, the film is probably ruined. I've never had a problem with carry on, but the X-rays used for hold luggage are much more powerful than the ones uses for hand luggage.
ronald_moravec1
It is random. The places equiped with the new baggage scanners guaranteed ruined film if yours gets scanned. It is a secret if all luggage gets scanned and where the new powerful scanners are located.
frederick_muller
Only one thing to do. Get a roll developed and see how it turns out. Good luck, and let us know how you fare ...
frank uhlig
How much do a couple of rolls of film cost? Now you have learned your lesson at a decent price. Sorry about the pics though; that hurts more than the cost of film, I know. So you can add to the $$ damage now and have them developed. Maybe you are lucky as at the lottery ... Good luck! If it was unexposed film, just never-mind, discard and learn.
jack_lo_..._t_o
Matt: film???
berk_sirman2
How many rolls are we talking about? Even if you develop one and there's no damage, I still would not be 100% sure all rolls were entirely undamaged. On the other hand getting one roll developed is a good idea, it will give you an idea about the quality of local film processing. Berk

__jon__
Just had some Fuji 160/400 speed film go through the machine and checked baggage in Mexico... just had it processed. No problems at all...
skeeter
develop it at a local pharmacy that offers no charges if the film does not turn out. my local walgreens does that, and if fact they will let you go through all of your prints and only pay for the ones you keep. mike dixon
I've also had a few rolls hide in my checked baggage--they turned out fine. It's really a matter of luck whether they'll be ruined or not.
roger_hicks1
If one roll is OK the others will be too. The super-powerful scanners wreck EVERYTHING (including photographic paper) if they are used at all, so your only hope is that your luggage wasn't actually scanned. matt_m__toronto_
ok thanks. this is 120 chrome so it was more a curious/peace of mind question. i think i should be ok. this was departing cuba, so i dont think they will be up to par with the super powerful xray scanners of today. film getting dropped off in an hour.
