thanz
I just won a YASHICA 124G, I know I know....not a classic in the sense of "pre-1970" but it looked pretty cool and I got it for a double digit price. I have a Yashica 635 with the much maligned Yashikor that performs well, is the Yashinon that much better? Anything else I should be aware of? I think I'm addicted to these TLR's at this time, haven't picked up a Leica in 2 months :-O thanks, Todd
michaelging
Yes the Yashinon lens is a better lens , How much better does not make a difference, as the Yashikor lens is very good as well. I do put my Yashinon lens as very close to my 2.8 planar on my rolleiflex.
paul s
The Yashinon (4 element Tessar type) is a better lens overall than the Yashikor (3-element Cook Triplet), but you may not notice it until you look closely at the corners and edges of the frame. My experience is that the 3-element Yashikors show softness in those areas, particularly on landscape, architectural shots and large group photos. The softness won't be obvious on single portraits and small groups, and may actaully be desireable if you are trying to blur other details. -Paul Shinkawa

thanz
"Yo, Todd... trade you, uh, a Reflekta TLR for, uh, one-uh yer Leicas dealies." LOL! My wife would shoot me afer all these years of me running around chanting "Leica this, Leica that", hey but thanks for the offer! Thaks for the comments guys, I'm sure the 124G will be a good performer! Todd
bliorg
Hey, Todd -
The picture I posted in the Rollei thread I started was from a Yashinon. I get brutally sharp images from it. Make sure you use a hood. Think the Yashinon is Tessar-formula; if I'm wrong, I'm sure I'll hear about it.
Congrats on your new baby.
Scott
Sandeha Lynch
This here below is from a 124G with a Yashinon. Great machine, only drawback is the winder, but it shouldn't be a problem if you use earplugs.

thanz
thanks Scott and Sandeha, great pics. Now I can't wait for it to get here. Todd
mskovacs
Yes, they wind like a coffee grinder but deliver the goods. Stunning detail and tonality in that photo, Sandeha.
bacsa
Sandeha, LOL, before reading the caption I thought you took a pic of the 124G winding gear.

dean_williams
Don't worry, Todd. Just don't crank it like you're trying to start an old Model A (Ford), and it'll last for decades. If it does make much noise, it probably needs the old grease cleaned out and re-lubing. The wind gears are made of hardened brass. A little grease will keep them quiet.
