steve_munoz
I am looking to get the same thing, but instead am going with the 486RC2. The amount of weight that the 486 is more compatible with what the max weight the 3021 can hold. Having a more capable ballhead, however, is never a bad thing. jim_gross
I started with the 3021 and the 486RC2 combination. I think you would be happier with the 486 as it has the pan. Also if you have the funds for the 055 it has all the same fetchers and it is lighter if you will be hiking. Jim
phyrpowr
I have this one, am 6 feet even, can raise the post just a little for "no stoop" shooting, and it's fine with my 20D and 100-400, a good combo and excellent value for money Carbon fibre just doesn't lose enough weight for the $$$ difference, for me

rogernoel
This is a very timely discussion for me, as I am tripod shopping too. I have an old SLIK that has served me well, but I get a back ache crouching and installing the camera on the pan head is cumbersome. I was looking at the 3221WN tripod with the 488RC2. I am 6" 2" and I want the height. It looks like it may be a little heavy when tramping on the trails though. I have the Digital Rebel and expect to buy the 30D or maybe something newer in October. Mike_R1664876643
You can't go wrong with the Bogen 3021. For the money, the 3021 has no equal IMO. I used a small Bogen ballhead for a couple of years (it may have been the one your mention) on a Bogen 3001 and it was OK, but I've since invested in a Kirk BH-3 and there is a world of difference. It's expensive and might be more than you want to spend, but I would at least consider it.
