j_smith6
I just opened my camera bag and I have noticed that my 75-300 mm lens is cracked near the front lens. Probably it's because thin tamrac bag... Of course nothing would happen if it was not made of plastic. (I wanted to buy new camera bag few months ago but I didn't have time for looking for a good camera bag and then I forgot about it...) Damage of the lens isn't too big but it may get bigger while using it. Fortunately nothing has happened with the rest of my equipment. Lens is working properly but the lens hood is falling. Do you know how much would cost changing this part for a new one?

ken munn
Looks like the sort of break that would glue successfully at almost no cost (about what a 75-300 is worth in the opinion of some!)
j_smith6
Yeah I know, but the problem is that lens hood is falling. I keep this lens in my camera bag but I use it maybe few times a year.
phule
<<Yeah I know, but the problem is that lens hood is falling.>> Have you tried, as was suggested, glueing the break together?

j_smith6
Jose Naranjo: I'm stupid because I'm using Canon equipment? Interesting :) So tell my why so many pro photogrpher sell their Nikon equipment and buy Canon's? They say that they were tired of using Nikon's software and cameras. The lens cracked because it's a cheap plastic lens which I almost don't use. Since january I used it maybe 3 times, so what for should I buy better one? Nothing has happened with 100mm macro which was near 75-300mm. 75-300 is a slow amateur lens with noisy and slow AF, the material it's made of is just soft.
CANON IS THE BEST :)
awindsor
Glue it with epoxy or the like. A clamp placed on the ring at 90 degrees to the break will hold it together while the glue cures. Should be fine. Be frugal with the glue and apply it just at the outside of the break. You don't want glue squeezing into the interior of the lens. mars c
In addition to above, you should sand the epoxy patch after it hardened, and paint that portion red, to mimic L series lens. Just kidding on the last part:-)
bill_b2
Michael, it may have failed because the screw was torqued too much. Ask Canon about this. That could weaken that ring over time.
