paul_crumplin1
hi, can you good folks tell me if an sb 600 will work in all modes on an fe, i am looking at buying a dslr sometime in the future so the 600 will be fine for that, but i am still not sure if it will work with the old ttl system on the fe, hope this is not a silly question, regards paul. vanson
Hello Paul, First of all, the Nikon FE does not feature TTL flash, so the SB-600 flash can only be used in A and M mode, not in TTL mode. The only ones of the 'compact' Nikon SLR cameras to feature TTL flash is the FE2 and its successor the FM3A. regards, Marco
Michael R Freeman
The FE does not support TTL flash (the FE2 does). Since the SB-600 does not (IIRC) have a non-TTL autoflash mode, it would only work in full manual mode on the FE. That means manual GN calculations based on focused distance and aperture - not very convenient or flexible. Possible, but not enjoyable. The SB-800 would be a better choice for a DSLR *and* an FE, since the SB-800 does have a non-TTL autoflash mode which would be much more convenient to use with the FE. bruce_rubenstein
An FE only supports Auto and Manual flash modes. The SB600 does not have an Auto mode. Probably not the flash to get for an FE. If you want a flash that is compatible with current DSLRs, then you need the SB800. BTW, The FE2, FA and FM3a have TTL modes and will work in TTL mode with the SB600.
