aaron_johnston
Can I get some opinions on photo labs here in NYC? I just got back from wasting my lunch hour attempting to pick up prints fromAlkit near Union Square and was basically blown off by their uppity clerk. Thisis after they scratched up a batch of slides the previous time and misprinted aset for me last month. They've lost my business for good. I've searched the archives and found that most of the threads re: New York labsare either quite old and/or are filled with info about obsolete companies orbusinesses that have moved but to who knows where. I've used Adorama and the E6 was good but the prints were drugstore quality.I've read that Duggal is the best one day and the worst the next. I understandno one is perfect and that choosing a lab is a lot like choosing a politicianbut I am really just tired of poor quality, poor service, unreliability, etc. Who has the best batting average for prints and/or E6. Please, someone, enlighten me.
mitchfalk
flatiron 17th st. and 6th ave. Good, fast, reasonable.
steven_chan3
Flatiron is good for E6 and C41 process & contact, but their machine prints are not that great. My experience in general is the NYC labs are good for E6 and C41 process/contact. Print quality usually sucks. You may want to try C-Lab by NYU for machine prints, I think they handle prints better. Spectra is also decent for B&W process/contact, and E6 also, with fast turn around and reasonable prices. If you want good quality machine prints at resonable prices, you won't find it in NYC. Try labs in Hollywood and LA. Lots of great labs there.
steven_chan3
Oh, I forgot, my experience has been that Duggal is overpriced and quality is subpar for the price you pay.
matthew_julian
I agree about Duggal. Maybe they are good for high-profile clients, but they don't seem to care about the "little people" very much. Too expensive, too. Even Adorama E6 was disappointing for me: inconsistent color and a tendency towards scratches. Always like Flatiron myself. I've mostly done E6 there. The few times I've done prints (which included my wedding) I've had good results, but it's been a while.
gregory_logiodice1
How about Modernage? I've had good experience with E-6. Never tried them for prints.
helenbach
As well as Flatiron and Duggal, I use Imagination on Park Ave South between 24th and 25th. They don't do E-6 though. Best, Helen
discpad
But Helen, you soup your own E-6!
