Novatron 240 D / Wein XL8-D Malfunction

I have a duke's mixture of lights, a Novatron 240D + two Novatron heads and four

and four ancient, but fully functional and bulletproof White Lightning 10,000's.

I like to trip the power pack with a SB 24 or the like and have, up until the

last few weeks been successfully doing that. All of a sudden, the power pack

would not trip, so I figured the Wein had gone sour and ordered another. OOPS!

The new one does not work either when plugged in the HH receptacle on the power

pack. But if you plug the Wein to a WL's HH/PC sync cord and plug to the pc

connection on the Wein it works like gang busters. Works well with PC/HH cord

from camera to power pack. What am I doing wrong here?

Try reversing the optical slave. They are polarity senstive...at least mine is. I have mine marked so I know which blade goes into the narrow side of the HH jack.
