'interruptable' user-definable actions - how to make them?

Recommended Posts

Bad title, sorry, but I'm not sure else what to call this...

Long time ago when I used actions from other people, some of them would allow me

to set certain things in the middle, say for example a value between 0-255, and

then continue.

How can I do that when I make my own actions that are 4-5 different operations,

but I want one or more to be based on the image, i.e., maybe the number needs to

be 128, or maybe 50...so it stops at that point and lets me put the number in

(and tweak it hopefully) then it goes forward and everything else is always the

same for each image...?

A real world example (simple I hope):

Action:

1) set levels (allows me to choose whether to neutralize the colour or not,

i.e., opens up the options box and when I've clicked OK, it goes to step 2)

2) Add a colour mixer adjustment layer, set it to monochrome, allow me to

manually thereafter change the values in RGB sliders, then after clicking OK it

sets automatically the layer to 'luminosity'.

3) simple hue/sat, set to colourize, and 0 saturation...all automatically, then

sets the layer to 'colour'.

...That sort of thing, where it's all automatic but waits for me to enter

certain values...

Don't know about CS2, but in CS1 that's what the second checkbox to the left of each step

is for. Check it and if that step has a dialog it'll show it, rather than using the recorded

parameters.

I never would have known about this, but apparenntly there's a way to check it for all steps

in every action at once, and I did it by accident. Spent over an hour trying to figure out why

all my actions were hanging up. Duuuuh!

Ah ok, that worked, sorta mostly. Thanks, I had no idea that was there. It's a little slow because toggling a particular step on makes the WHOLE step become stop-by-stop (for example have to go in and name every layer or at least click OK to continue) but that's fine! Thanks a lot:)
