jeffrey moore
I don't have any experience with this head, but a quick use of the search tool for "Kirk BH-3" will return 65 hits here on photo.net.
sheldonnalos
I use it and love it. I used it earlier tonight to support a 4x5 monorail with a Nikkor 210mm f/5.6 lens. That weighs about twice what a 30D & 300mm f/4 L weighs. It's more than capable, and you'll enjoy it as a high quality ballhead. That being said, if I had a hundred extra dollars at the time, I probably would have gotten the Really Right Stuff BH-40 ball head. Haven't seen it, but it's been really well received. Hope this helps! Sheldon
erick_kyogoku
Hi Ross. I just spent a week researching light weight, precise ballheads. I was at first interested in the Acratech Ultimate ballhead after reading so many gushing reviews, but was then turned on to the Kirk BH-3 and RRS BH-40. After much deliberation and a few questions here and elsewhere (click my name to see them), I decided on the RRS BH-40. It is a very recent product, looks like a smart design with quality manufacturing. It isn't much more than the Kirk BH-3, and for something that will last you for many years the price difference will soon be amortized.
Here is a link to their website. You can get an idea for what this head is like by reading reviews for its older brother the BH-55 from Luminous Landscape and Digital outback. Hope that helps.
nodrog
I've had one for years and love it. It is very well constructed and supports my Nikon 80-200/f2.8 without any problems. It never creeps.
images_in_light_north_west
Thanks for your input, decided on the Kirk BH-3, the RSS BH-40 would have been my choice if funds permited, a very nice option indeed but $120 more killed my budget, after all I have got to report this to the boss (wife) Thanks again, Ross
