mark liddell
I have recently bought the Acratech Ultimate Ballhead for use with my gitzo 1228mkII and Mamiya 7. I will be using a gitzo 1325 for the RB. Would I be able to get away with using the Acratech head on it? The max loads of the head and 1325 are very similar; using something like the RRS BH-55 seems pointless when the max load is double the tripod's. knox . .
That's the combination I use with my Hasselblad and 180 mm. Never a problem.
Ed_Ingold
The Acratech is strong enough, but its ideosyncracies are irritating. In order to tilt the camera past center, you have to reverse the head on its panning base. The Acratech tension control is not very effective. It is cheaper and lighter than the Arca B1 or RRS BH-55, but not in the same league for useability. The Gitzo G-1325 is an excellent choice for the RB (or any camera up to 15 pounds).
